Sleek surfaces provide a seamless effect, and natural light is maximized thanks to the large windows and glass sliding doors, which help bring the outside in. So, you’re lucky enough to have a kitchen island but now comes the hard part. How are you going to light it? Whether your island kitchen bench Queensland will be the main food preparation area, a breakfast bar, second study area or simply a beautiful feature in your kitchen, you should ensure your lighting suits the purpose of your island kitchen bench. See some of our favorite kitchen lighting inspiration below. If you want to keep your kitchen area, clear and uncluttered then track lighting is for you. This minimalist kitchen has used track lighting the same color as the roof to further minimize the impact of the light fitting on the decor. The lights are also able to be directed onto certain areas of the kitchen. If the layout provides insufficient space when installing the kitchen bench, then the joins should be kept away from the holes in the bench where sinks or taps are being installed.
The type of joins that are used will depend on the bench material but may include straight joins at the and butt joints. Joins must be thoroughly sealed to prevent food and waste from getting in. This is for hygiene reasons and will help to prevent bacteria growth. Top joins must be sealed with a waterproof sealant. If you’re installing an appliance that requires a cutout (like a sink or cooktop), rounded internal corners are normally necessary to prevent radial cracking (depending on the material). If you’re installing a kitchen bench or reconstituted stone benchtop, cutouts are often provided in separate pieces and then joined together. If you’re installing a dishwasher under the bench, sealant is also required. The Building Code of Australia states that for dishwasher spaces, the underside of a non-moisture resistant laminate or solid timber benchtop should be sealed with an appropriate sealer. This is to reduce the chance of moisture entering the bench immediately above the dishwasher and extending for 150mm either side of the fitted dishwasher.
If you have a kitchen that is already adequately lit, a cluster of pendants will add a decorative element. By clustering them to one side, it doesn’t take away from the design of the kitchen bench and won’t feel like it is cluttering the space. The exposed bulbs are perfect for this natural style kitchen, but you can add shades or cages to suit your style. Whilst the rule does say that when hanging lights always hang an odd number, this rule needs to consider the size of the bench. You don’t want to over crowd the space just because a magazine said you needed a certain number of lights. If your kitchen bench is smaller you can hang two pendants and get the same design affect by choosing a larger size. If you have a longer bench you might consider hanging four. The metal frame of this light matches the fittings of the kitchen creating a uniform look and a stylish country style kitchen. The sleek lines of the light blends in seamlessly with the kitchen design. The large glass doors allow enough light into the kitchen that the kitchen island light seems more of a decorative feature than functional.
